Score, Rocco is 4: Hockey Birthday Party: skating + concession snacks

Four years fly when you’re raising an energetic little guy! Our little hockey lover, Rocco, requested a hockey birthday party this year. We didn’t do a big one with friends last year, so we thought we would pick it up a notch this year. Besides the fact that I truly enjoy planning parties, he’s getting old enough now to really appreciate it, which makes it even more fun. It was actually pretty easy too, since we had a lot of the hockey decor on hand from his bedroom and toy collection. Here’s a look at Rocco’s “score, I’m 4!” birthday party.

Rocco’s friends all met us at the 3o3 hockey and training center to skate and practice their slap shots.

His dad’s buddy that works at the 3o3 rink set up the full hockey experience by stacking pucks just like the pro’s and all!

We even snuck in a team pic before heading over to the concession stand back at our house.

The party room included red, white, blue and black hockey gear.

Each player found their spot with a puck name tag on their straw. I found these in store at Hobby Lobby. They weren’t specifically made for a hockey themed party, but when I spotted them they were the perfect fit!

The cake was an all vanilla (Rocco’s request) custom ice cream cake from Dairy Queen. I ordered the hockey guys topper online. Stacked pucks made the perfect cake platter!

Since there wasn’t any of the delicious cookie fudge inside the ice cream cake, Oreo pucks made a great mix-in.

The marshmallows on the bottom right were homemade and super easy! I just bought some Ghirardelli white cholocate candy making chips,  dipped one side of the marshmallow in the melted chocolate, then dipped it in red sprinkles and let them harden for a few hours. Rocco loves marshmallows so much that he could eat an entire bag if I let him. This was a fun and festive way to add an extra sweet little treat to the concession stand. You could coordinate these to match any event. Slide them onto a stir stick for a hot cocoa treat. Dip them in gold sprinkles for a New Years Eve partie or rainbow sprinkles for Valentines day, you name it!

Once the referee blew the whistle at the end of the game (I mean when the mama’s said their sugar head was ready for bed), each player got to take home a referee style party favor bag.

Now onto the next December event…

Merry Christmas and Happy Hockeydays!

Dreaming of a white Christmas: decor + more

Hello! It’s been a while since I’ve been able to get on here and write. As much as I’ve been missing it the past few months, there is a very good reason for my absence…I’m cooking up another baby boy! Baby Luca is coming this February. And with Rocco turning three tomorrow, my 24/7 mom status has kept me busy keeping him busy. Most days I need a nap when he does!

However, today I have an open afternoon with some banana bread baking in the oven and the perfect opportunity to snuggle behind the computer and chat for a bit. You’d think with Christmas in 10 days I would be baking cookies, but that’s next week!

Speaking of Christmas, decorating the past few years has got me humming the tune “I’m dreaming of a white Christmas.” I finally got the white tree I’ve been dreaming of for years and decorated it whimsical to please the eye of my almost three-year-old little guy.

As for me, it never gets old walking by those sparkling bright white sprigs.

It’s also the little details I love to help share the joy of the season with my little one. Rocco loves snow globes this year, so I made sure to have one at eye-level for him.

My mom passed this white Rudolph snow globe down to me and he loves watching the snow fall as it chimes a Christmas tune.

White stockings are hung on our mantle with care. And the littlest addition this year brings our family so much cheer!

Now we just need some snow outside! I’m not complaining about a mild winter so far, but I would love for our white Christmas to be complete from the inside-out. Mother Nature please bring us a little less than a couple of feet.

As we await the celebration of Jesus’ birth, may the sparkly and white make this joyous season bright!

Baby boy fashion alert: keepin’ it comfy + keepin’ it real

Our littlest man, Luca, is almost nine months old! I cannot believe I’ll be planning his first birthday in just a few short months. It’s like they say, “the days are long and the years are short,” right mama’s?

In the meantime, we are having so much fun learning all about him! Luca is an observer, yet he will make his voice heard, especially when trying to keep up with his big bro. He’s not super ticklish, but when you catch the right spot he has a hilarious love/hate to be tickled laugh. Our little love is a snuggler, but is also on the move crawling and climbing to stand on ev-er-y-thing.

With that said, I’ve had to ditch the denim lately and let Luca live in sweats. Being the fashion-lover I am, I truly enjoy styling my boys and finding ways to make the comfy stuff cute. It’s an even bigger bonus when I come across positivi-tee’s like this one from Old Navy. I’m a firm believer in the power of positivity and with everything going on in our country and around the world lately, I love this little reminder from my tiny teacher.

From head-to-toe, baby boy fashion has come a long way. A few of my favorite places to shop baby boy are H&M, Zara, LuLu and Roo, Gap, Old Navy, Target and Nordstrom.

A special thanks to my sweet Luca boy, for helping us keep it real with a little fashion and faith this Friday afternoon. You can find his hat, sweatshirt, joggers and sneaks at H&M.

The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” – Psalm 18:2

A boho-inspired one year photoshoot: feathers + fringe

Wishing my very special ONE-year-old niece a very happy birthday today! I cannot believe a year has flown by since this sweet girl was born. I love her more everyday! A few weeks ago I had fun setting up boho-inspired one year photos that her mama dreamt up. It was the perfect summer night with the sun beaming through the trees and I was able to catch this cute little hippie girl’s spunky and sweet personality in action (biting mosquitos and all)! The girl knows how to get the job done at her shoots, what can I say? #babygirlmodel

Here’s a peak at this beautiful baby girl’s session (featuring her handsome daddy and gorgeous mama)…

Happy first birthday, my Kiki girl! I can’t wait to watch you learn to walk and talk this year and I know God has great plans in store for you this year and beyond! Your auntie loves you very much!!!

A rustically sweet maternity shoot: bliss + beauty

My glowing sis-in-law asked me to take some maternity photos for her. With my love for taking pictures and capturing beautiful moments, especially of my family, I was thrilled that she trusted me to do so! I have to admit I was a bit nervous. This was my first attempt at a maternity session and I wanted it to turn out just as she envisioned it. I am happy to say that with this mama-to-be’s pure beauty, the gorgeous location and the magnificent lens my dear friend borrowed me, they turned out better than I imagined. And of course, it was so much fun! Here’s a look at my blissful and beautiful sis-in-law’s rustically sweet maternity shoot.

We are all anxiously awaiting the arrival of this sweet baby girl. I can’t wait to snuggle my niece for the very first time. She is so loved already. Especially by the woman God chose to be her mama!

“For you created my inmost being, you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you daily because I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful, I know that full well!”
