A woodland Wild One birthday party: details + free printables

From Luca’s cake smash photo shoot  last week to his birthday party this past weekend, we are all a bit pooped over here. Big brother Rocco might be feeling it the most as he shared in all the excitement {and extra sugar} with his little bro. The party was a success and Luca was definitely celebrated and loved on! Here’s a look at his woodland style Wild One first birthday party.

This time around I made planning easier on myself and simplified a bit more than Rocco’s first birthday party. Don’t get me wrong, I definitely still sprinkled in special details. I just did it in a more efficient and budget-friendly way, like making the black and white invitations myself, incorporating things on hand like decor from Luca’s woodland nursery and refraining from personalizing every single little thing (no labeled water bottles, etc.).

Also, thanks to my mom I was able to include some quality reusable items like the table runner and pillow she made with fabric from the local craft store. They are so cute!

Many mama’s take monthly photos of their cubs and I love the idea of incorporating them into first birthday parties. It’s so much fun to relive that first year of crazy growth at a glance.

Another one of my favorite quick and easy party details was the “Wild Paw-corn” with coordinating sprinkles. Plus, it tasted just as good as it looked! It’s officially my new go-to party treat since you can coordinate the sprinkles to match any theme and it looks so pretty in a glass bowl. Here’s the recipe I put my own spin (and name) on from Pinterest. You gotta try it!

The only thing I needed to assemble was the favor bags (above), which were super easy! I picked up small craft paper bags, filled them with two Girl Scout S’mores cookies and sealed them with pre-printed stickers from Etsy.

These 4×6 black and white printables I designed and framed were a fun and easy way to fill space. I made generic versions to share with you, if you’d like to do the same (see links below). Enjoy!

Score, Rocco is 4: Hockey Birthday Party: skating + concession snacks

Four years fly when you’re raising an energetic little guy! Our little hockey lover, Rocco, requested a hockey birthday party this year. We didn’t do a big one with friends last year, so we thought we would pick it up a notch this year. Besides the fact that I truly enjoy planning parties, he’s getting old enough now to really appreciate it, which makes it even more fun. It was actually pretty easy too, since we had a lot of the hockey decor on hand from his bedroom and toy collection. Here’s a look at Rocco’s “score, I’m 4!” birthday party.

Rocco’s friends all met us at the 3o3 hockey and training center to skate and practice their slap shots.

His dad’s buddy that works at the 3o3 rink set up the full hockey experience by stacking pucks just like the pro’s and all!

We even snuck in a team pic before heading over to the concession stand back at our house.

The party room included red, white, blue and black hockey gear.

Each player found their spot with a puck name tag on their straw. I found these in store at Hobby Lobby. They weren’t specifically made for a hockey themed party, but when I spotted them they were the perfect fit!

The cake was an all vanilla (Rocco’s request) custom ice cream cake from Dairy Queen. I ordered the hockey guys topper online. Stacked pucks made the perfect cake platter!

Since there wasn’t any of the delicious cookie fudge inside the ice cream cake, Oreo pucks made a great mix-in.

The marshmallows on the bottom right were homemade and super easy! I just bought some Ghirardelli white cholocate candy making chips,  dipped one side of the marshmallow in the melted chocolate, then dipped it in red sprinkles and let them harden for a few hours. Rocco loves marshmallows so much that he could eat an entire bag if I let him. This was a fun and festive way to add an extra sweet little treat to the concession stand. You could coordinate these to match any event. Slide them onto a stir stick for a hot cocoa treat. Dip them in gold sprinkles for a New Years Eve partie or rainbow sprinkles for Valentines day, you name it!

Once the referee blew the whistle at the end of the game (I mean when the mama’s said their sugar head was ready for bed), each player got to take home a referee style party favor bag.

I designed the Hockey Tic Tac Toe game, that went along with a hockey stick pencil, temporary tattoo and lolly pop. The coloring sheets at restaurants have made Rocco a huge tic-tac-to fan! If you have one too, download this free template.

Now onto the next December event…

Oh the places he’ll go baby shower: travel + safari

My best friend, Eileen, from college is due with her first baby (bonus…just two months after me)! We dreamed about the timing of our babes happening like this and it just so happened to work out with her first and my second. And they are both boys! I cannot wait to share mama-hood with her and watch these little guys grow up together!

Here is a look at the travel and safari theme baby shower (to coordinate with her adorable nursery) that a few other ladies and myself hosted for her at my house this past weekend.

This shower was filled with so much baby love. We are beyond excited for Eileen to welcome baby Gavin into the world and for tons of sweet baby boy snuggles!
